Meet Finnegan.

Some stories are hard to tell.

Finnegan is only 3 years old, but no dog should have lived through what he has.

He first entered Oakland County Animal Shelter as a stray in October of 2024. His ears had been crudely cropped with what appeared to be scissors, and an embedded collar had left a deep scar around his neck. He was microchipped, adopted, and everyone hoped that chapter of his life was behind him.

It wasn't.

Nearly two years later, Finnegan found his way to Haven of Love… carrying the exact same scars. Only this time, they were fresh.

The damage to his ears is so severe that they will not heal on their own. Finnegan will need surgery just to repair what someone else did to him.

But that's not even how his rescue began.

The person who no longer wanted him didn't simply leave him behind. They dumped him like he was trash. As Finnegan desperately chased after the only people he thought were his family, trying to climb back into the car so he wouldn't be abandoned… they shot at him.

Think about that for a moment.

A dog who had already endured unimaginable neglect was begging not to be left behind. He wasn't running away. He was running toward the people he loved.

And they answered his loyalty with gunfire.

For almost his entire life, this sweet boy has known pain, neglect, and heartbreak. Yet somehow… he still greets people with love. He still wags his tail. He still believes humans are worth trusting.

As if his past wasn't enough, Finnegan also tested heartworm positive and now faces months of treatment before he can finally put his old life behind him.

We can't change what happened to him.

We can't erase the scars on his neck or undo the damage to his ears.

But together, we can give him the medical care he desperately needs, including heartworm treatment, surgery to repair his ears, and everything else required to help him heal.
