Giving Tuesday is December 2nd, and we want YOU to celebrate this International Day of Giving with Mittens for Detroit! This year our entire Giving Tuesday campaign is all about growing our Handwarming Heroes Circle, one hero at a time! Let me tell you why.

This is Mittens for Detroit's 16th Season of Warmth. When we started in 2010, we had no idea of how much we would grow. We hoped that the community would support us, and the community has come through! So far we have put more than 350,000 pairs of new, warm, durable gloves on hands!

One of the best shows of community support is our Handwarming Heroes Circle. This group of recurring monthly donors have made a commitment to the people of Detroit since August 2018 with donations topping $33,000 since then. The Heroes invest in warmth and support the children, teens and adults in need in Detroit who might not have new winter mittens and gloves if Mittens for Detroit was not here. The Handwarming Heroes are truly superstars!

How does this work? It's so easy. You sign up today during this campaign as a RECURRING donor. You choose any amount of at least $10 a month. That's it. By committing to an automatic donation, you are going to BUDGET-PROOF, INFLATION-PROOF, even RECESSION-PROOF your donations. MFD started in 2010 at the tail end of the recession. We ask people to help us at their own comfort level. A monthly recurring donation of $25, for instance, would total $300 over the year. Imagine all the ways that this would help our small but mighty charity! For instance, our rent is $600/month. Our insurance is $1200/year. Our boxes cost $1,000/year. Your monthly donation would be a huge help to us as we plan our budget and grow. To have this kind of support from the Heroes has been a lifeline for us some months.

You know how bad things are this year for people in need. You know how tough it is for nonprofits, especially the smallest of us. YOU can make a difference and help us grow.
