Mittens for Detroit

A nonprofit organization

Mittens for Detroit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that collects, purchases, and distributes new mittens and gloves to children, teens, and adults in need in Detroit, Michigan, and other nearby underserved cities. Since 2010, more than 330,000 pairs have been distributed. 100 Community Collection Partners host public and private efforts that bring in about 23,000 pairs a year. Our Distribution Partners put pairs on hands at nearly 100 schools, shelters, homeless programs, veterans' groups, senior centers, medical facilities, and other programs that serve those in need. Volunteers join The Big Sort, an annual series of engagements held in our office near Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit, where pairs are sorted and prepared for distribution.

This is an excellent example of the community coming together to provide warmth for those who would otherwise be braving Detroit's figid winter with cold hands.

Mittens matter. We couldn’t do this work without you. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity as we work together to warm hearts, two hands at a time.
