About Preemies of the Carolinas

The Preemies of the Carolinas was founded in September 2015 by Jennifer Opferman, to help children of both North and South Carolina, who will have any type of stay in a Children’s hospital. Their first donation of Inspirational Hearts and Preemie Hats was on October 7th, 2015 to Novant Hemby Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

The local NICU’s are provided with Hearts, Hats, Bibs, Burp Cloths, Blankets, and other items for patients and parents. In addition, individual packets may be mailed out to parents nationwide who currently have a preemie or baby in the NICU.

Preemies of the Carolina's rely on many volunteers, who work hard to create (knit, crochet, or sew) and mail or personally deliver their donations. There is still plenty of work to be done once Preemies of the Carolina's receive the packages.

A small sampling of the process: sorting, perhaps washing, packaging, adding to storage, package for hospital delivery based on their requests or holiday, deliver to hospitals. In addition, we don't want to forget those NICU families nationwide that a request for a care package has been received. Those requests are packaged up and mailed out.
