About Preemies of the Carolinas

The Preemies of the Carolinas (POTC) was founded in September 2015 by Jennifer Opferman, to help children of both North and South Carolina, who will have any type of stay in a Children’s hospital. Their first donation of Inspirational Hearts and Preemie Hats was on October 7th, 2015, to Novant Hemby Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC.

Preemies of the Carolinas provide participating local NICU’s with Hearts, Hats, Bibs, Burp Cloths, Blankets, and other items for patients and parents. In addition, parents, family, friends, or NICU staff may request individual care packages, as well.

POTCs rely on an amazing network of volunteers, who work hard to create (knit, crochet, or sew) and mail or personally deliver their donations. Not to mention volunteers unpacking, sorting, repacking for delivery to hospitals or shipping.

There is still a plethora of work to be done once POTC receive the packages. A small sampling of the process: sorting, washing, storing, packing for hospital delivery based on their needs, requests, or holiday, and delivering to hospitals. In addition, we do not want to forget requests for care packages from NICU families nationwide. These requests are assembled, packed, and mailed out.
