Put Your Hands Up for Detroit Youth: We’ve Raised Our First $200

Update posted 20 days ago

Put your hands up for Detroit youth.

Detroit CHEMpreneurIST has raised our first $200 toward our $5,000 Rocket Community Challenge goal.

Through August 28, we are raising $5,000 for five years of impact and the next chapter of our work. This campaign will support responsible early planning and preparation toward identifying and preparing a future permanent Detroit CHEMpreneurIST home.

We envision a youth centered space that can serve as:

  • A hands on youth innovation lab
  •  An entrepreneurship launchpad
  • A no cost retail space where students can showcase and sell what they create

Campaign funds may support space assessments, due diligence, deposits, permits, safety and accessibility planning, lab and classroom preparation, and the equipment or fixtures needed to make a future space functional and welcoming.

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our first $200. Every donation, campaign share, and supporter led fundraiser builds momentum and may also strengthen our opportunity to earn additional Rocket Community Challenge prize support.

Help us keep moving forward. Donate $5, share the campaign, and invite one person to put their hands up for Detroit youth before August 28.

Together, we can help young people move from curiosity to creation, and from ideas to impact.

Detroit’s next generation of scientists, makers, and entrepreneurs deserves more than a temporary table, borrowed classroom, or one-day event. They deserve a place where their ideas can grow.

For five years, Detroit CHEMpreneurIST has created hands-on opportunities for young people to explore chemistry, STEEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Arts & Mathematics), product development, and innovation. Across schools, parks, museums, summer programs, community events, and neighborhood markets, youth have learned to formulate products, test ideas, build prototypes, create brands, practice pitches, and imagine themselves as the scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs shaping Detroit’s future.

To celebrate five years of impact, we are raising $5,000 to help Detroit CHEMpreneurIST take the next step toward finding a permanent home.

We do not yet have a property selected. We are actively searching, identifying possible spaces, exploring what is feasible, and building the financial foundation needed to move from vision to action. Every donation brings us closer to a space designed for Detroit youth.

Our future home will be more than an office. We envision a youth innovation lab, entrepreneurship launchpad, and community retail space where young people can move an idea from imagination to impact.

Inside this space, youth will explore chemistry, design, and other STEEAM fields through hands-on learning. They will have room to formulate products, build prototypes, test concepts, and connect scientific thinking to real-world problem solving.

Students will also learn to develop their ideas into ventures through market research, budgeting, pricing, branding, packaging, customer service, and pitching. Mentors from science, education, business, and the arts will help them recognize new possibilities for themselves and their ideas.

One of the most important parts of this vision is a youth-centered retail space that students can use for free. Young entrepreneurs would be able to display, market, and sell what they create without rent, booth fees, or sales commissions becoming another barrier. They could learn from customers and build confidence.

Imagine a young person developing a body scrub in the lab, testing the formula, designing the label, calculating the cost, practicing their pitch, placing the finished product on a shelf, and making their first sale all within one connected space. That journey, from curiosity to creation to commerce, is the experience we want Detroit youth to have.

A dedicated home would also allow Detroit CHEMpreneurIST to offer more consistent year-round programming, safely store materials and equipment, host youth markets and showcases, welcome families and partners, and give students a place to return as their skills and ventures grow.

Our $5,000 goal represents five years of impact and the beginning of our next five years. Funds raised will help us continue searching for the right space and prepare for the steps that follow. Depending on the property identified, support may be used for professional assessments, planning, deposits, lease or acquisition preparation, permits, safety and accessibility needs, classroom and lab planning, retail fixtures, equipment, and other costs connected to preparing a future home.

This campaign is not about claiming that every detail is already decided. It is about inviting our community into the process early. Finding the right space will take research, partnerships, careful planning, and resources. Your donation helps demonstrate that Detroit believes in this vision and that our young people deserve a place built for their ideas.

Each donation moves us closer to our $5,000 goal, strengthens our campaign, and may position Detroit CHEMpreneurIST to receive additional Challenge funding. Gifts of every size matter, and sharing this page can introduce the vision to new supporters.

This is bigger than a building.

It is a place where curiosity can become confidence.

Where a science experiment can become a product.

Where a product can become a venture.

Where young people can see their ideas displayed, valued, and purchased.

Where Detroit youth can walk in with a question and leave knowing they have the ability to create solutions.

Detroit has always been a city of builders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. For five years, Detroit CHEMpreneurIST has helped young people recognize that they belong in that legacy. Now we are asking our community to help us build the foundation for what comes next.

Help us raise $5,000 for five years of impact and help Detroit CHEMpreneurIST move closer to a permanent home for youth innovation, science, and entrepreneurship.

Donate today, share our story, and invite others to help create a space where Detroit’s young entrepreneurs can learn, build, launch, and grow.
