Support Autism in the D

Help Create a Safe Space for Children Like Josiah

As a mother of a child with autism, I know how meaningful it is to find places where your child feels safe, understood, and accepted. That is why I am proud to support Autism in the D during the Rocket Community Challenge from August 3 through August 28.

My son, Josiah, is smart, loving, and full of personality. He experiences the world in his own unique way, and some environments can be overwhelming for him. When he is given the right support and space to learn at his own pace, he continues to grow, build confidence, and amaze me.

Autism in the D is important to our family because it creates inclusive spaces and meaningful connections for individuals with autism and their loved ones. Through sensory play, family events, parent support, education, and advocacy, the organization helps families feel less alone and more connected to their community.

One of its most exciting initiatives is The Inclusive Gym Project, Detroit’s first adaptive and sensory-based play gym. The space will feature adaptive equipment, calming zones, and inclusive programming for children of all abilities.

For Josiah, this gym would be more than a place to play. It would be a welcoming space where he can explore, learn, connect with others, and simply be himself.
