Support New Hope Center for Grief Support

In late 2020 I lost two of my sons; one in September and the other in December. One took his own life and the other passed due to complications from long-term substance abuse.

As you can imagine, this was devastating to me and my family. In January of 2021, I reached out for professional help as I struggled to deal with this tremendous loss. That person told me to join a support group. Thankfully, a friend had already passed the website for New Hope on to me and advised I keep it for when I needed it. 

I was never one to believe in the efficacy of support groups. However, my experience with the group I joined showed me that they do, indeed, work. Just being able to talk through my experience, learn that what I was feeling was OK, and even matched the experiences of others in the group helped me better understand myself so I could have hope again. I learned valuable skills to help me cope with things as I walked through my grief journey, eventually being able to be accustomed to my new "normal."

My experience is very typical of the many who have participated in New Hope programs. I feel so strongly about this group, that I now volunteer on their Advisory Board.
