Success Stories

Yasa's Journey

Originally from Iraq, Yasa began her path to success with Skyline Literacy in 2022, enrolling in individual tutoring to prepare for her GED exams. With the support of her dedicated tutors, Chris Gingrich and Reta Finger, Yasa steadily built the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed.

Her hard work paid off in November 2024 when she passed all four GED subjects. Today, Yasa serves as an assistant teacher in the Harrisonburg City Schools, a role she deeply enjoys. Inspired by her journey, Yasa is now focused on advancing her career and dreams of becoming a certified teacher.

Juana's Journey

Juana's journey from Guatemala to the United States in 1993 was driven by her dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. However, navigating daily tasks like making doctor appointments and supporting her deaf and mute son, were challenging without a strong grasp of the language. After relying on others to translate for her, Juana took a bold step and enrolled in Skyline Literacy citizenship classes.

With the patient guidance of her teachers, she not only learned the answers for the test but also gained a deeper understanding of history and values of her new home. Her hard work paid off when she proudly became a U.S. citizen. Motivated by her success, Juana continued taking English classes to build her independence and confidently navigate daily life.
