It’s no secret our communities are facing urgent environmental and economic challenges. Yet again, we are working to provide solutions for the future and those who are the future! Our Student Recycling Ambassador program is using education, action, impact, and youth leadership to empower the next generation of planet and people protectors, but we need your help.

“Humanity has come and destroyed, but that does not mean we cannot restore the damage we have done and create a better world. Not only for us but for the animals, as well as our plants and trees. For the earth.”

- Simone (Sophomore at King High School)

Taking care of our Earth and each other is not just about recycling and preparing for life ahead; it is not only about what happens in the classroom, but also building stronger communities, enhancing the capacity for pollution prevention, difference-making skill building, and expanding access to resources. These young ambassadors learn how to turn knowledge into action and advocacy into impact through hands-on learning, leadership development, and community-based ecological advocacy strengthened by a curriculum rooted in recycling, sustainability, civic engagement, and future readiness.

“Recycling isn’t a one man job, it’s a collective. It has such a big impact on all of us, meaning us, the plants and animals”

- Amya (Senior at University Preparatory Science and Math)

Since 2021, we have supported 46 amazing and inspiring Detroit high schoolers in over 100 skill-building hours. Whether it’s the internships, connections, jobs, opportunities, or alleviations the Student Recycling Ambassador program has created - on top of the hundreds of barriers broke for fellow residents and a quarter-of-a-ton of waste removed and reduced in Detroit - Green Living Science cannot continue, or expend, a now half-decade legacy program without the funding it deserves so much.

Due to the loss of that funding, we no longer have the financial means to continue this program. And climate change, environmental injustice, and pollution aren’t slowing down. This program has been deemed so important that it was recently featured on Metromode.

Now, a call goes out to people like you. WE believe in the power of youth, the promise of sustainability, and the potential of this program to make a lasting impact. Do you?

“I loved the program so much! It gave me an opportunity to meet with new people that have the same passion for the environment like I do, and it gave me an idea of how I can make my own impact. The building was really cool, and it was nice to see how Detroit residents reproduce and recycle.”

-Brandi (Junior at Cass Tech)

With your support, the Student Recycling Ambassador Program can return in 2026, stronger than ever. Your donation won’t just fund a program—it will ignite change. It will give students the tools they need to fight for the future they deserve. EVERY dollar will make its way to these students to bring this PAID work and education program for THEM.

Are you willing to help us make it happen?
