In the United States, 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with Autism each year, that is a 312% increase since 2000.  While little is known about the cause of this disorder, what we do know is there is much we can do to help those affected. As of 2024, only 21% of people with special needs, including autism, are employed. Yet more than 60% of people with autism are employable. Michael B’s Café is creating a path for change through job placement opportunities. At Michael B’s, we’re fostering a sense of self-worth and independence in persons with disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disabilities.

The vision for Michael B’s Café is to vow to serve the best coffee and confections in Michigan, but more importantly- to provide opportunities for special needs individuals to receive on the job training and job placement. Individuals gain self-worth by contributing and participation in their community.

Join Michael B as he forges forward on his journey to independent living. At a young age, Michael Beauregard Carlisle was diagnosed with Autism, yet he doesn’t let that diagnosis define him. He graduated from Grosse Pointe South, a traditional high school in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and has since attended college. Receiving a diagnosis of Autism should not, and will not, stop Michael B. He is smart, caring and dedicated to changing the perceived limitations on special needs individuals. He and his family are tireless crusaders to be the voice for a population who appreciates the extra support and advocacy.

All we need to make this dream a reality is your support: our goal to get the cafe up and running is $25,000. This will help fund the coffee machine, as well as the startup costs associated with launching the cafe. Dream with us and help us achieve our goal! Thank you for your support!
