FOCUS Detroit

FOCUS Detroit, a local operating center of FOCUS North America, exists to serve the poor by bringing together Orthodox Christian churches and community partners to provide Food, Occupation, Clothing, Understanding, and Service to address the needs of our Detroit community.

Our programming includes the following:

• Tutoring, mentoring, and arts programs for elementary and middle school students
• A weekly Tuesday evening dinner for school children throughout the school year 
• Outfitted For Good - Our 40-ft shipping container- turned- "free store" where we provide clothing, hygiene products, and basic needs assistance
• Back-to-school supply collection and distribution for students and teachers 
• A twice-monthly Saturday hot lunch program free of charge for our neighbors
• Holiday assistance programs for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a cooperative community garden
• Educational programs for suburban and urban volunteers to work towards racial reconciliation through the shared mission of service

We are raising the money during this challenge to help us continue and grow our ministry and launch our newest outreach to women and young children—bringing hope, care, and essential support to families in need. This new ministry will be called "The Nest."
