Detroit Hives

Detroit Hives is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to improve underserved communities for people and pollinators by transforming blighted vacant lots into thriving green spaces. We exist in over 35 locations, collaborating with schools, organizations and business to create a social, environmental and financial impact. Through our Bee The Change Program, we're educating the next generation of leaders on sustainability. In support of Detroit's newest designation on becoming the 207th certified Bee City USA affiliate, we're now expanding to a city-wide initiative on supporting the education and conservation of pollinators. Through our nationally recognized model of revitalizing vacant lots to benefit both people and pollinators, creating social, environmental, and economic impact, we expanded our work nationally in 2019 with the launch of MO Hives KC in Kansas City. This expansion inspired the founding of National Urban Beekeeping Day, celebrated annually on July 19th.
