Every donation brings safety to Detroit’s dogs in crisis
Detroit’s dogs need us now more than ever. For 15 years, Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR) has stood as the city’s first no-kill shelter—a beacon of hope for animals facing unimaginable cruelty and neglect. Thanks to supporters like you, we have opened our doors to even the most vulnerable and “unadoptable” cases, transforming lives and reuniting pets with loving families.
The Shelter Crisis: Why Your Support Matters
Across Detroit—and nationwide—shelters are overflowing. The cost of pet ownership is soaring. Families who once welcomed three dogs into their homes now struggle to care for just one. Too many innocent dogs are forced to wait months, even years, in overcrowded kennels for someone to show them compassion.
Rescue alone is not enough. The only sustainable solution is prevention: providing our community with affordable spay and neuter services, as well as education and support. But we can’t do it without you.
Join the Movement: Empower Detroit’s Animals And Families
As a non-profit, DDR is more than a shelter—we are a lifeline for Detroit’s dogs and the families who love them. Our outreach and advocacy have touched thousands over the years, but the need is growing. In 2025, we welcomed a compassionate veterinarian dedicated to tackling the root of the crisis: reducing the pet population through spay and neuter programs.
Every pet we help spay or neuter means fewer dogs languishing in shelters, fewer heartbreaking stories of suffering—and a healthier, safer Detroit. Did you know that over 90% of dog bites are caused by unaltered male dogs? By supporting our spay and neuter initiative, you not only save lives but also make Detroit safer for children, families, and pets alike.
