Mission and Vision

Founded in 1987 by original Tuskegee Airmen who proudly called Detroit home. What started as just a monthly meeting for Airmen to reminisce about their time as military pilots turned into a permanent place to display and preserve the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. Their extraordinary acts symbolized courage, resilience, and excellence in America and abroad. 

The Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of these groundbreaking aviators who defied racial barriers to serve their country with honor during World War II. As the largest repository of Tuskegee Airmen Air Force artifacts, we safeguard their rich history through immersive exhibits, firsthand oral accounts, and authentic memorabilia.

Beyond preserving history, we are committed to inspiring the next generation of pilots and aerospace professionals. Through targeted youth programs, we empower aspiring aviators to follow in the footsteps of these heroic Airmen. Our collection features historic Tuskegee Airmen aircraft, offering a deeper understanding of their invaluable role in securing victory.

These pioneering aviators and their support crews not only fought for freedom abroad, but they also returned to Detroit to raise families, lead in their communities, and inspire generations to come.

Today, we honor that legacy not just by preserving history, but by creating it.
